SUMMER AT WALDEN!

The Walden School is excited to offer our fourth year of a Fun In The Sun, educational and hands-on, interactive summer program. In a beautifully prepared outdoor and indoor space, the weekly themes engage children in a wide variety of activities designed to provide the perfect opportunity that encourages children to make friends, explore and grow.

NEW THIS YEAR!

Our summer program is expanding to include children entering into first and second grade: ages 6 and 7! There will be theme-based and academic offerings designed to challenge older minds. Check out the weekly descriptions for all the exciting details and to choose your favorites.

Week #1 - June 17- June 21 Going Green - Nature Meets Environmental Awareness

WEEK FULL/WAITLIST ONLY

Embracing everything that Nature has to offer promises an exciting experience. We will explore the outdoors and wildlife all around us as we grow plants and watch life cycles. We can delve into the intricacies of pollination, nurturing seeds from germination to planting, and embarking on a thrilling hunt of all things green. The wonders of wildlife surround us at every turn. The children will love concluding the week with a fun-filled "earthy" celebration.

Older campers will learn about taking care of the environment,  sorting trash as we reduce, reuse and recycle and learning how to care for planet Earth.

Week #2 - June 24 - June 28 You Are What You Eat - Study of the Human Body and Healthy Eating

WEEK FULL/WAITLIST ONLY

Come on an incredible journey with us as we explore  the intricacies of the human body, from the sturdy skeleton to the protective skin. We'll delve into the remarkable systems that define us, piece together an organ  puzzle, navigate the intricate pathways of the bloodstream, and even experience some good food for your body. Keep your eyes open for a digestion bag and a heart model that really pumps. Our week will culminate with the exciting creation of a comprehensive Body Model, bringing together all that we've learned about the amazing Human Body.

Older campers will learn to use microscopes and take a close-up look at hair, skin and nails.

Week #3 - July 1 - July 5 Party in the USA

WEEK FULL/WAITLIST ONLY

We're celebrating with an exploration of the United States, spanning from coast to coast, delving into the geography and the vibrant cultures that call this nation home. We'll commemorate the birth of our great nation with a jubilant party featuring sparkles, glitter, and a patriotic palette of red, white, and blue. We’ll honor the people of our nation with a Luau, a Hoedown, a Mardi Gras Party and a Paint Party as we celebrate from sea to shining sea.

Older campers will explore the history of the USA and sign a declaration of freedom with a vintage quill pen.  

Week #4 - July 8 - July 12  Animal Planet

WEEK FULL/WAITLIST ONLY

Embark on a thrilling adventure this summer where the enchanting world of animals comes to life! Whether they roam the untamed wilderness, graze on a farm, live at the zoo or share your home as cherished pets, every creature has a unique story to tell, and we're here to explore it all. It will be fun to learn about all things wild and wooly.

Older campers will match biomes to animals and choose an animal to research.  

Week #5 - July 15 - July 19  Making Waves

WEEK FULL/WAITLIST ONLY

From the deep blue sea to a beachy tidepool, we’ll study life in the ocean with a tropical folklore flair that includes mermaids and pirates. Dive together into the world of sea creatures, such as the Horseshoe Crab, the Octopus, and the Sting Ray, to gain insights into their lives. We’ll make slime jars and paint with natural sponges. Our week will culminate in a delightful "toes in the sand" beach party.  

The older kids will explore the migration and life of a whale. 

Week #6 - July 22 - July 26  Jurassic Park

WEEK FULL/WAITLIST ONLY

Have you ever wondered what life was like during the era of the dinosaurs? We'll dig into the past by excavating fossils and delving into the fascinating behaviors of these ancient creatures. The excitement will reach its peak as we create explosive volcanoes, and we'll groove to the prehistoric rhythms with the lively Dinosaur Dance, promising a stomping good time for all.

The older group will make an Earth model and create fossil footprints.

Week #7 -  July 29 - August 2  Blast Off Into Space

WEEK FULL/WAITLIST ONLY

Get ready for an exhilarating journey into the vast expanse of outer space as we launch into the unknown. Countless adventures await as we explore planets and asteroids within our solar system. Our quest will involve hunting for celestial formations, crafting our uniquesolar system, and perhaps, the thrilling possibility of encountering an extraterrestrial being. Brace yourself for a week filled with celestial wonders and star-studded excitement.

The older group will create their own spaceship and eat like an astronaut.

Week #8 - August 5 - August 9  Backyard Bugs in the Biomes
Bugs are everywhere! Embark on an enthralling journey into the realm of insects and the intriguing, tiny creatures that coexist with us!  We’ll explore insects from our own backyard and compare them to bugs from all around the world. Over the course of this week, we'll gather and identify a variety of bugs, create a miniature bug habitat, and engage in an insect scavenger hunt.  Get ready to embrace the world of creepy crawlies.

Older campers will create their own imaginary biome and explore the things that live there.
