Service Learning
Beyond collecting goods, we also provide students with the opportunity to engage directly with CityTeam’s mission. Walden students volunteer with CityTeam, spending time packing food boxes and sorting toys. These hands-on experiences foster empathy, compassion, and a deeper understanding of how small acts of kindness can create meaningful change.
At The Walden School, we’re honored to work alongside CityTeam, creating a culture of giving and gratitude within our school and providing our students with a foundation for lifelong community involvement. Together, we’re building a brighter future, one act of generosity at a time.
The Walden School is proud of its longstanding partnership with CityTeam Chester, an organization deeply dedicated to serving our community’s most vulnerable members. CityTeam provides essential resources, including homeless support, economic empowerment programs, housing assistance, and restorative services. Their work also encompasses providing hot meals, emergency diapers, formula, fresh food boxes, clothing, job training, and medical services. Each holiday season, CityTeam distributes Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Boxes to thousands of families and brings joy to children with gifts tailored for those in need.
Through this partnership, Walden students, families, and staff can make a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors. Our Stuff the Bus Thanksgiving Food Drive encourages the community to come together to stock CityTeam’s pantry with essential items. Similarly, the Holiday Toy Drive gathers toys and gifts that bring holiday magic to children in need. To honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Walden's students engage in a school-wide initiative to make lunches for MLK Day for those served by CityTeam's food program.
Whether it's a preschool class making trail mix or elementary students tripling recipes to bake homemade cookies, each child learns that their individual actions will make a positive impact in the life of someone in need.
