  • I have nothing but good things to say about Walden! Not only is my daughter learning academically, but socially as well. The school encourages the children to work out conflicts peacefully. The teachers are caring and it is a nurturing environment. Submitted by a parent · November 14, 2017

  • We have been with Walden from First through Fifth Grade and couldn't be more pleased with the school. Our son has received individual, focused attention that has allowed him to grow and flourish in the environment. He is thrilled with the school and excelling which has us thrilled with the school. Smaller class sizes and teachers who care and are invested makes Walden the perfect place to beSubmitted by a parent · November 08, 2017

  • Our experience at Walden has been extremely positive. The teachers and administration have created a peaceful and caring environment for our two girls. Walden encourages children to explore their interests while developing their emotional and intellectual capacities. The school's pedagogy is among the best we've witnessed, in that Walden is consistently committed to Montessori teaching and learning experiences that are backed by both the timeless values of Dr. Montessori and recent learnings from education research regarding how to best help kids learn and grow. Most importantly, our girls have made great friends at Walden, adore their teachers and are genuinely happy, curious learners. - Submitted by a parent · November 3, 2017

  • The Learning Together program is so perfect for not only my daughter to get into a classroom and be around kids, but also for her caregivers to learn more about what kids need at this crucial age. Even though it's usually my mom with her, the Monday Messages are an amazing tool for her and my grandmom to read so we can all be consistent. -Submitted by a parent · October 16, 2017

  • I have only amazing things to say about The Walden School! Last spring, we were researching preschools in the area for my  son. I was looking for three specific things: a warm and peaceful atmosphere both within the classroom and out; an organized administration as well as teachers; and a multi-disciplinary program that offers a colorful education. The Walden School met all three of my requirements and SO many more! During our tour, Kathy, the Admissions Director made a remarkable first impression on me! She represents the school so well! Kathy was extremely polite, articulate, and well versed on how the Montessori philosophy plays out in each aspect of the students’ day. The classrooms are quiet and very busy. Very different from any other classroom setting I have observed. Every student was focused and involved in a “working” activity that looked more fun than actual “work”. The rooms are clean and orderly. Both teachers and children were welcoming, courteous and kind. After enrolling my child at Walden, I immediately received emails of important dates, upcoming events, and other imperative information I needed to understand and prepare for the year; Again, very organized, comprehensive and consistent. There are social events at the end of the summer and orientation days for new preschool students to help acclimate your child before jumping right in, which I LOVED!! The classrooms are alive with endless Montessori activities along with, tadpoles, frogs, fish, and butterfly terrariums. Their two rules are safety and respect. Students are encouraged to be considerate, patient, and self-sufficient. They serve themselves snacks, pour their own water, and clean their dishes!!!! Did I mention this was preschool?! They use various and practical tools for math, vocabulary, science, etc. Everyday my son walks willingly into his classroom and when I ask how his day was, he smiles with an enthusiastic, “It was very great, Mommy!” Where at his previous school, he resisted going and cried at drop off. My favorite aspect about Walden is that they focus on the individual child. The students’ comfort and understanding is of high priority. They work at their own pace with gentle encouragement from the teachers. No one is ever left out or pushed along with the herd. Each child is uniquely nurtured along side their supportive peers. The Walden’s friendly environment is contagious… each parent and child is equally as pleasant, day in and day out. It’s a true family-oriented place that builds a solid foundation for our children both educationally and morally. I am so happy to have found such a magical place for my sons! - Submitted by a parent · September 29, 2017

  • In my five years here, Walden has taught me not only long division and the difference between there, their, and they're, but Walden has taught me important life skills such as courage, creativity, integrity, and 16 others. - Submitted by a recent Walden graduate ·  June 15, 2017

  • Our daughter attended her first year at Walden this year and absolutely loves it! She has grown socially, emotionally, and mentally in leaps and bounds throughout the course of the year. She even begs to go to school on weekends! In the beginning of the year we were uncertain of how she would respond in the school environment but there was absolutely no need for concern! She will definitely continue to attend the Walden School! Her teachers are phenomenal and have always addressed any concerns that we may have had promptly and professionally. They genuinely care for each student and have been instrumental in teaching my daughter how to be responsible for her actions, problem solve, be respectful, and have more self confidence! From our tour of the school til the end of our first year we have been impressed and look forward to furthering our daughters education at Walden! - Submitted by a parent · July 3, 2017

  • I was nervous to start at Walden, but I felt comfortable and at home on the first day. That is something I have never felt anywhere else. - Submitted by a recent Walden graduate · June 15, 2017

  • Our son started The Walden School this year at three years old for the Pre-K program and we absolutely love it. I was impressed not only with the program, but the amazing staff even before he began the school year. The Director of Admissions at Walden, Kathy, took over two hours to let us tour and had made accommodations for a teacher to engage with our son upon his visit. She provided us with a very warm welcome and answered every question we had. During this short tour we came to understand that Walden is so much more than a wonderful environment for our son to learn, but that he would be cared for, loved, and in a safe and comfortable environment. We also learned that character development was a huge part of Walden's philosophy all the way up through 8th grade. This is something very seldom seen in education, but is very important to child development. After watching him grow this year, we are so pleased with our experience. For his young mind, there is constant engagement and learning through every part of his day. The teachers and staff treat the students as their own children. His classroom teachers, Barbara and Liz are wonderful and proactive. They have always been there to answer any questions or concerns we have had and have made us feel comfortable when we were unsure about stages of development we were unfamiliar with. The biggest part of what our son has taken away thus far, is empathy and awareness of others. He is being guided everyday to be a more empathetic and thoughtful person. The Montessori approach is an impressive educational model, in that it allows for guided exploration, opening up so may doors for learning in a very individualized way. It makes us very happy to hear that out son "love(s) big boy school" and is excited about everyday at Walden. We are thrilled and cannot wait to see what is in store for our son's future. - Submitted by a parent

  • The Walden School is wonderful! My daughter started at Walden in the pre-school program and is currently in their middle school. She loves it! She looks forward to attending school each day. The teachers routinely go above and beyond and they have helped my daughter develop a true love of learning. -Submitted by a parent

  • Like many reviewers have already noted, The Walden School does a superior job of focusing on the whole child. Learning is personalized and the students are actively engaged in meaningful work. The emphasis on peace education and life skills allow children and teachers to co-create an environment that is socially and emotionally safe. The school is led and staffed by qualified and caring administrators and teachers. And their joy and love of teaching and learning resonates within the children and the school community. Our first grader has attended The Walden School since he was 3-years-old. A few months into his first year at Walden, he said to me, “Mom…when my teacher looks at me, I think she might love me!!” At that moment, I knew we had chosen the right school for our son. It’s a place where HE KNOWS he is loved! - Submitted by a parent

  • The comfortable community, wonderful people, and exemplary education made for one of the very best schools I have ever attended. - Submitted by a recent Walden graduate, June 15, 2017

  • Our experience at Walden has been a true blessing to our family. Our son started preschool at Walden and is now a flourishing fourth grader! Our daughter started as a preschooler and is now an excited Kindergartener. Our intentions initially were to have our children attend Walden for preschool and Kindergarten to learn the Montessori philosophy and then transfer. After all, we moved to Wallingford because of the great school district. However, our experience with the teachers, classroom community and fellow parents have given us a new perspective. Our children are happy and learning in a safe and fun environment. The Walden community is committed to each individual child out of respect and genuine concern for their best interest. -Submitted by a parent

  • My three children are well into their second year at Walden, ranging from pre-K to 5th grade. We were new to the area when they started at Walden and Walden has become one of the main pillars of our life here. We are a part of a warm, vibrant, caring community ranging from the teachers, to the administrators of the school, to the parents and children. I find the school to be truly focused on the needs of the individual child and going out of their way to understand and accommodate them. We had some difficult times with two of our children, and the school gave them maximum support and showed me they truly cared about their well-being and happiness above all else. They also were flexible and resourceful to allow their individual needs to be met, while reaching a nice balance with the rest of the classroom. -Submitted by a parent

  • You have created such a special place for children to come together to grow and learn.  From the first moment I entered the school, I knew it was a magical place.  Now that our first year at Walden is coming to an end, I can say that my high expectations have been far surpassed!  I am so thrilled that our family has become a part of your exceptional community.  I am already looking forward to next year.  - Submitted by a parent

  • For my family The Walden School has been life changing. The phrase the sight of school should make a child smile posted on the sign outside the school was what led me to investigate further. After a lot of research, and experience at a prior school, we decided to enroll both of our children in this wonderful school. The extraordinary care and support that my kids have received from every staff member has made a great difference in our lives. My kids tell me about their day and thrive on the approach used by The Walden School that motivates children to learn. The Walden School has made a world of difference and my kids now have fun learning at school. Isn't that what school should be about. —Submitted by a parent

  • Our daughter started preschool at The Walden School this year, and we could not be more thrilled with her experience there so far. Walden's thoughtful, focused approach to nurturing each child s individual interests and strengths is extremely appealing to us. The children are engaged, focused, and calm in their activities. It seems to us the best possible environment for learning one in which the students enjoy what they are doing but are also doing those things in a way that is purposeful and meaningful to them. Our daughter walks in every morning with such confidence and happy anticipation - it is a real thrill for us knowing that she genuinely wants to be there every day and is already associating learning with joy and positive self-esteem. —Submitted by a parent

  • I believe the skills that our sons learned at Walden provided them with tool to maximize their potential. One of our sons is currently thriving in high school largely because he has fabulous study and organizational skills. I know that these skills and study discipline were developed in their early schooling years, while at Walden. How many times have you heard about kids who 'don't live up to their potential'? My kids learned at Walden to unlock their potential and strive towards excellence. My husband and I are forever thankful that we made the decision to send our children to Walden.  -Submitted by a parent

  • My son started 18 months ago at Walden in 5th grade. A child that 'hated' school, was sent to the office periodically and would come home crying (25 kids in his class and strong focus on standard testing). I had to do something different for him and after much research, decided on Walden. He was very nervous and scared at first, but the Walden staff and teachers advised to let him be himself as children operate at their own pace. So they watched and guided him in this new school ... now he is a great student, loves school and is developing deep relationships with his peers. I could not be more pleased at the approach they have taken with him. He is cared for and respected at Walden and is thriving. He actually told me he loves school and can be himself! I love the communication and thought that goes into the academic program and just as importantly, the leadership and social skills required to have success and happiness in life. Well done! —Submitted by a parent

  • As someone who has been affiliated with The Walden School for more than 25 years, I couldn't be more proud of the work that happens here every day. Teachers work tirelessly to provide a peaceful, caring, nurturing and challenging environment for all Walden students. It's a lovely place for children to spend most of their waking hours! —Submitted by a teacher
